About this Event
A large body of recent research clearly shows that excess manganese exposure is associated with neurological impairment in young children. This includes an increased risk of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), impaired cognitive development, lower IQ scores, and many other neurodevelopmental problems. Our market basket survey of infant formula and young child nutritional products sold in the United States and in France suggest that these products contain up to 1,000 times the manganese concentration of human breast milk and often exceed internationally recognized regulatory tolerable intakes for manganese exposure. Recommendations for parents and regulators will be discussed.
