On October 19, 2022, John Hart, Jr, Director of the Sullivan Museum and History Center, will present a discussion of the museum’s new interactive multimedia exhibit Norwich Valor. On September 13, 2022, the museum officially opened Norwich Valor, which presents the histories of over 130 alumni who received the Silver Star, one of three Branch Crosses, a Medal of Honor, or the Secretary of Defense Medal for Valor. This exhibit represents over six years of work, from an initial presentation and idea to mocking up and final creation. During this Lunch and Learn we'll dive a little deeper into a few of the alumni represented in the project and what it took to gather what we were able to find and what our next steps are for each and every recipient.
John Hart, Jr. joined the staff of the Sullivan Museum and History Center in December 2013 and became direction in June 2018. Throughout his nine years at Norwich, John has helped grow the collection of rare and important objects and now leads a team of three to continue creating new and exciting exhibits, finding one-of-a-kind objects, growing and expanding programs, and educational opportunities, and establishing tight relationships across campus with academic departments. John earned his BA in History from St. Michael's College in 2006 and his MA in History Museum Studies from The Cooperstown Graduate Program (SUNY Oneonta) in 2008. His graduate thesis presented how to use technology for object theater and interactive exhibits when presenting textual-based and oral stories.
