Federalism: A Discussion in Devolution

This moderated town hall style discussion will be presented by Mr. Mark Strand from the Congressional Institute focused on our Master of  Public Administration students, future administrators and public servants. 

Mark will highlight challenges associated with public service in a polarizing government structure and answer questions about how Democracy might be restored to the vision of the Framers of our Constitution.  Please bring your questions related to your own sphere of challenges or concerns as Mr. Strand will provide contextual and critical thought regarding the State of Public Service in the 21st Century.

The Congressional Institute is a non-profit entity dedicated to educating Members of Congress in serving their constituents and helping all understand the process of legislation operations.  The Institute is dedicated to congressional reform efforts that seeks to make Congress more effective and authors research publications on policy issues ranging from earmarks, authorizations, checks and balances, and restoring order to the legislative body. 

Mr. Strand became President of the Congressional Institute in 2007.  He is a 2017 Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics Fellow and an adjunct professor of legislative affairs at George Washington University School of Political Management.  Mr. Strand has coauthored several publications. Previously, Mr. Strand spent 24 years on Capitol Hill working both House and Senate assignments on member and committee staff with titles ranging from Chief of Staff, Legislative Director and Press Secretary.  Mr. Strand holds a Masters in Legislative Affairs from GW Graduate School of Political Management, an MBA in Marketing from the University of Phoenix and a Political Science and History degree from Excelsior College of the University of New York.
