Armed forces globally, struggle to meet recruiting needs and reflect the multicultural populations they serve. This presentation summarizes a research project proposing to meet those imperatives by diversifying recruitment pools through the removal of barriers to immigrants’ participation in the military, which in turn contributes to equity, diversity, and inclusion. This project brings together scholars from 12 countries (Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, India, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States), to shed light on barriers to immigrants’ participation in the armed forces, identify challenges and best practices, and make recommendations. The project includes: A virtual workshop through the Centre for International and Defence Policy, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, 25-26 Jun 2021; a policy brief for Canada’s Department of National Defence; and an edited manuscript to be published by McGill-Queen’s University Press. The project team includes Grazia Scoppio, Sara Greco and Alex Olteanu.
Mack Hall is only available for Norwich students, faculty, and staff
