Re-Envisioning the First-Year Writing Sequence
In “Re-Envisioning the First-Year Writing Sequence,” Dr. Luedtke will discuss the revision of EN 101 and EN 102—courses that hadn’t been revised in at least 40 years—and how she brought the courses into alignment with the values of both the discipline of writing studies and Norwich University. The new curriculum blends two of the most exciting recent developments in first-year writing by focusing on civic discourse and research identities. Taken together, these approaches bring an explicit commitment to undergraduate research into the FYW curriculum, reinforcing the citizen-scholar model that is the backbone of the Norwich model of education.
Dalyn Luedtke is Associate Professor of English and Director of the Institute for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. She teaches courses in First-Year Writing, Professional and Technical Writing, Writing for the Web, and Rhetorical Criticism. Her research focuses on pedagogy, both in the classroom and the writing center, with a specific focus on community-building and curriculum design.
